Organizing plan
How we do it: We organize!
To reform the Suffolk County Democratic Party, we organize. We need new members and new leadership. The County Chair is elected by the members of the Democratic Committee, and any registered Democrat residing in Suffolk County can become one of those members.
Become a committee member
- Every town has its own Democratic Committee. To become an official member, you must walk petitions in a neighborhood in the town you live in—each neighborhood is called an Electoral District (ED).
- Each ED can have two elected representatives who serve on the Democratic Committee.
- ED leaders carry petitions for candidates, vote for their town's Executive Committee, and ultimately help elect the County Committee Chair. Learn more about what’s involved here
- Each town's committee is a different size. Southold has 19 EDs with 38 potential committee people, while Brookhaven has 298 EDs with space for 596 committee people.
- Many of these seats are empty, so there is a need for more people and energy across the county. Petitions begin circulating at the end of February, 2026. Still have questions? Here are some FAQs.
- Want to join or learn more? Complete this form and a Volunteer Region Leader will be in touch with next steps
